Cartoon fever: The only kind of fever I'm ok with.

 “Captain Planet, he’s the hero. Gonna take pollution down to zero…”, if you know the lyrics further, you are a treasure on the face of this earth. Well, of all the five characters that would combine their powers together, of Earth, Fire, Water, Wind and Heart, I’ve always wanted to be the planeteer who had the power of Heart - Ma-ti, and for very long I thought it was spelt Mutty. We learn as we go. 



As far as my memory serves me right, I used to rush back home from school to be able to watch the episodes of SwatKats and Captain Planet, because they were telecasted around 04:00 p.m. My brother and I would build our own bund wall, and equip ourselves with anything that seemed like a weapon and go bonkers shooting in the air at an imaginary bad guy. All of this happened while we watched Swatkats, pretending to be one of them. We would have our internal fights about which one of us was the cooler Kat. 



The next one that will always be my most favourite, will be the Powerpuff Girls. One of the first cartoons to portray girls fighting off the bad guy, correct me if I'm wrong. Well, they were sugar, spice and everything nice, till the Professor accidentally drops Chemical X while creating them. To think of it, we all have a little of Chemical X in us. So much for Bubbles, Blossom and Buttercup. Of the three Buttercup was all I wanted to be, where I was fighting the Mojo Jojo’s around as a kid.  Well, she’s a bad-ass super girl to me.



Summer holidays are something I’ve always waited for eagerly. This is where the cartoon marathons began. My day would typically start at around 8:00 a.m. where I and six other cousins of mine would cram ourselves on a bed and watch Laff-a-lympics, a spoof of the Olympics. 



Dexter’s lab was the sole reason my brother was destructive as a kid because in his world everything was an experiment.  I did take quite the inspiration from Dee-dee to be the most annoying sibling he could have possibly had. What fun is it with no sibling fights, let alone the Choke-slams we've pulled off on each other?



One must note, that this jog down my memory lane has always been of many delights to me and I owe it mostly to all the Cartoons I have watched on the tiny Onida TV at home. 

A few others which deserve a mention are Scooby-doo, Courage- the cowardly dog, the Flintstones, the Jetsons, Popeye the sailor, The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest, The Addams Family. A few of these shows are quite old, but they continued to gain popularity even in the ’90s. 


I would not be doing justice to my blog without honouring Tom & Jerry, Uncle Scrooge, Donald and all of Disney world for making my childhood the best.

    As I took this trip down memory Lane, my mind kept humming the title tracks of the shows one by one mentioned in your blog. If my fading memory does elude me, it was Jetsons at 2:30, Flintstones at 3:00, Johnny Quest at 3:30, Swatcats at 4:00, Captain Planet at 4:30, Scooby Doo at 5:00 followed by WWE.
    An era long gone by which was refreshed by your cute little blog when time meant more than punch in’s and punch outs and the screen time meant more than staring at excel sheets crunching numbers. A time before the shows on Pogo and other such cartoons took over the small screen imitating the voices of Bollywood artists and making a mockery of our incredible childhood

    Oh! yea.. I remember Captain planet and Dexter's lab vividly. Tom and jerry is an all time favourite and the fever is passed on to my kids now !

F*CK! A series of unfortunate events.

Have you ever had one of those days when everything had to be just right but things ran in the exact opposite direction? If you relate with me, read. We are all profane when the time deserves it, and this episode definitely did. I had been working relentlessly on a presentation for a month. With one more day to go, I was still at work at 10:00 p.m. I was confident nothing could possibly go wrong. I had run through every little detail. I had double-checked all the figures and statistics. Elegance and Sarees - My love for 9 yards of fabric.

I was in the eighth grade. In the same year, my cousin was getting married. Appa had decided to design a lehenga from a simple Ilkal saree for the occasion. He deconstructed the saree and put together a design and had it sewed by the tailor. He was known for a lot of tricks up his sleeve, and creating magic was one of them. The lehenga managed to set a trend at least in the closed circles. I fell in love with the idea of a saree here. For my graduation ceremony in my twelfth grade, he bought me my first silk bandhani saree in a lovely combination of cerulean and cobalt blue. 💙 This was complemented with raw silk, deep blue blouse.  Teenage is confusing and there's an innate pressure to look good and feel beautiful.
